Bike Miami Day = 350 Day

This year Miami's ciclovia, Bike Miami Day will take place on the same day as 350 Day. A day to celebrate climate solutions. On this day 350.org has set out a campaign to make Sunday, October 10, 2010 the day in which people from all around the world will organize local "workday" parties to bring attention to carbon emissions, their effect on the environment and host activities showcasing ways in which we can reduce our impact. In addition to allowing everyone to enjoy the streets we will be having a 350 area where various organizations will be hosting activities and providing information.

Cycling is a fun, healthy, simple and effective way in which we can all reduce our carbon footprint. Bicycles take up little space, work on man-power and produce no waste, and a bike can travel  960 miles on the equivalent energy of a gallon of gas.

Like Thailand and Los Angeles, where they will be hosting cycling events in celebration of 350 Day,  we will be registering Bike Miami Days as a 350 Workday making it an official event to support this international campaign.

Support Bike Miami Days and join us in celebrating our city. Please donate today!

Spotlight: Summer Streets NYC

Summer Steets NYC | New York's Ciclovia
For the third year in a row the city of New York has brought back Summer Streets: Three consecutive Saturdays in the month of August where there streets are closed to vehicles from 7:00am – 1:00pm and reclaimed by citizens to bike, skate, run, walk or simply enjoy and explore their city in a new refreshing way. This year’s route connects the Brooklyn Bridge with Central Park and other low-traffic streets throughout the city for a total of 7 miles allowing attendees to determine the length of their journey.

Every mile along the route is filled with activities and innovative installations such as Dumpster Pools, a clever project by Macro Sea consisting of reclaimed dumpsters filled with water and turned into urban public pools. Activities include Tai Chi classes, Children’s Yoga, Musical performances, Road Tours, Group Runs, Dancing classes and so much more all appropriate for everyone of all ages and skill levels.

Summer Streets is part of NYC’s greening initiative to encourage New Yorkers to use alternative forms of sustainable transportation.

Go on New Yorkers, continue making the most of your streets!

"Volunteers are who make it happen"

Bike Miami Days was once a governmental initiative which received the full support of government officials, now it has been left up to us, the community, to bring back Bike Miami Days. We welcome and encourage you to take part in our effort to bring back Bike Miami Days. As with any community initiatives, volunteers are who make it happen. They are an integral part of our organization as they become the liaison between citizens and government officials to bring back Bike Miami Days. Volunteers provide many valuable skills and give this initiative the credibility, support and essential human resources. All of who have participated and volunteered at a Bike Miami Days event have experienced first hand the many ways in which our community benefits from these type of events. In our effort to make Miami a more sustainable city Bike Miami Days has proven to be an effective, fun and engaging way to promote alternative transportation, healthier lifestyles and community engagement. Check out our How To Help page to see the many ways in which you can help bring back Bike Miami Days.
