Spotlight: Summer Streets NYC

Summer Steets NYC | New York's Ciclovia
For the third year in a row the city of New York has brought back Summer Streets: Three consecutive Saturdays in the month of August where there streets are closed to vehicles from 7:00am – 1:00pm and reclaimed by citizens to bike, skate, run, walk or simply enjoy and explore their city in a new refreshing way. This year’s route connects the Brooklyn Bridge with Central Park and other low-traffic streets throughout the city for a total of 7 miles allowing attendees to determine the length of their journey.

Every mile along the route is filled with activities and innovative installations such as Dumpster Pools, a clever project by Macro Sea consisting of reclaimed dumpsters filled with water and turned into urban public pools. Activities include Tai Chi classes, Children’s Yoga, Musical performances, Road Tours, Group Runs, Dancing classes and so much more all appropriate for everyone of all ages and skill levels.

Summer Streets is part of NYC’s greening initiative to encourage New Yorkers to use alternative forms of sustainable transportation.

Go on New Yorkers, continue making the most of your streets!
